The Mushaf Al-Tajwīd: an innovation faithful to tradition

Since the early days of Islam, several stages have contributed to improving the written transmission of the Qur’an:

A simple and effective color code

Letters subject to recitation rules are classified into three main categories, each identified by a specific color:

A) Elongation (Al-Madd)

• Dark red: mandatory elongation of 6 vowel counts

• Light red: mandatory elongation of 4 or 5 vowel counts

• Orange: permissible elongation of 2, 4, or 6 vowel counts

• Cumin brown: normal elongation of 2 vowel counts

B) Nasalization (Al-Ghunnah)

• Green: nasalization of 2 vowel counts

C) Emphasis and vibration of the letter R

• Navy blue: emphatic letter R

• Sky blue: emphatic consonants
