What looks like a movie title is actually a quite astonishing plant. Indeed, the rose of Jericho, is a gray-brown tuber that seems to have dried up a long time ago. The roots detach from the earth, and the dehydrated parts shrink and fold into a kind of ball.

In fact, the unattractive desert plant, can survive for many years without water or soil. But when it soaks up water, it unfolds in a few hours into a beautiful desert rose.

Where does the Rose of Jericho come from? What are the benefits? How to use it and in what dosage?

All the answers and much more are provided in this article.

Rose of Jericho: a wonder of the desert

Originally from the deserts of Arabia and the areas bathed by the Red Sea, the Rose of Jericho is a desert herbaceous plant. Discreet, it is not particularly large, about 20 cm high.

Thus, it is capable of completely drying out and coming back to life upon contact with water. One could say that the Rose of Jericho has the ability to revive once dry.

However, this is just a very particular mechanism in order to spread its seeds widely.

That is why, as soon as it dries, it rolls up its leaves and thus protects its fruits. During this time, the flower hibernates inside. Protecting itself from high temperatures until they improve or until it is irrigated by water.

Now, it can simply be carried by the desert wind. As soon as the rain touches its dead leaves, it unrolls and releases its grains which can then germinate.

Due to repeated hibernation processes, the Rose of Jericho symbolizes transformation, renewal, and prosperity.

Its leaves are small, ovoid, and hairy. This is how the hairs protect it from excessive water loss in the harsh desert climate. From March to April, tiny white flowers form. Then, they transform into spherical fruits a few millimeters in diameter.

How to use the Rose of Jericho?

The Rose of Jericho is often used in the form of herbal tea. But it is rare to find Jericho rose tea in stores. That is why most people buy it dried and make the tea at home.

To make tea:

Start by adding 1 tablespoon of dried leaves and roses to boiling water. Then, let it infuse for about five minutes and then drink.

Many people enjoy the taste, but if you don't like it, you can reduce the amount of dried leaves.

Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, and adolescents.

Keep in a healthy place.
