What is louban?
Louban, or frankincense, is the dried sap from a genus of tree called Boswellia. Also called incense tree. Boswellia is a genus bringing together several species of trees, mainly native to Africa or Asia. They produce this famous aromatic resin, including Louban. This natural Acacia resin is obtained after incising the bark of the tree, at the level of the branches or trunk. The sap then flows and dries almost instantly on contact with air. It can therefore be collected by hand. Louban comes in the form of small yellowish and translucent stones, which slightly resemble raisins.
The frankincense, also called in Arabic "louban dakar", which means "male incense". This precious resin is actually an Arabic gum, which was highly coveted at the time of its discovery in the 15th century. We invite you to continue reading this article to learn more about this precious product!
